Extending its reach further into the Asian market with a latest Taipei store opening, Stussy continues to deliver directional streetwear garbs with the assistance of exciting collaborators. The latest cornerstone saw a number of in-store exclusives, in addition to joint ventures with CLOT and fashion customizer Dr. Romanelli of DRx. Known for his creative craftsmanship, Dr. Roamnelli’s work often blends vintage aesthetics with forward-thinking designs, producing conspicuous attire that’s available in limited batches. Having worked with an accolade of brands, this will be the first collaboration between the heritage Californian staple and the prolific customizer, one which will no doubt champion the loyal following of both imprints. While a glimpse of the designs have surfaced on different corners of the web, we spoke with the Doc himself to see if we could get any more tip-offs on the collection, in addition to hearing about his latest trip around Asia and what he’s got planned next.
Introduction, how the collaboration came about & what was the inspiration and materials used…
Can you introduce yourself and your background work/relationship with Stussy?
I’m DRx Romanelli , designer & marketer. Based in Los Angeles. I’m 36 years old and been a fan of Stussy since my earlier childhood. This is my first project with Stussy.
How did this collaboration with Stussy come about?
Edison (Chen of CLOT/JUICE) approached me about doing a capsule collection for the new Taiwan shop . From there I met with David and Scott in LA and worked out the details around the collection.
We saw teasers on instagram of the upcoming collab, what materials were used for this and what was the inspiration behind it?
All the materials used for this collection are deadstock items sourced from Stussy’s archives.
Favorite piece from the collection, exclusivity & favorite part of Asia tour…
Of the pieces that you’ve done with this capsule collection, which one was your favorite and why?
Hard to pinpoint one favorite item in particular, I was really pleased with all the pieces in this collection.
We’ve noticed that you work with an exclusive clientele, how available will these pieces be to the public?
These pieces are excusive to the Stussy Taipei shop. Maybe we will do another collection for a different region in the future.
What has been your favorite part of your Asia tour these past few weeks?
Definitely the crew we were travelling with. They’re a really great group of people making a shitload of memories.
Asian streetwear/fashion culture, upcoming projects & inspirations for creative process…
What fascinates you most when it comes to Asian streetwear/fashion culture?
The quality of craftsmanship is great and their overall focus and attention to detail is really impressive.
What are some more upcoming projects we can expect from the doctor?
Spending a lot of time on The Pancake Epidemic these days, as well as Blank You Very Much a new website I recently launched. Coupe of Converse projects in the pipe as well as a few more DRx capsules in progress.
What are your inspirations when it comes to the creative process?
I do my best work when I’m passionate about the project at hand. My inspirations boil down to being inspired.

Good coffee is critical in the greater equation.

In addition to the recently featured camp cap collection, Maiden Noir releases another series of headwear for this season, consisting of 5-panel caps as it utilizes their custom leaf camo pattern. The Best of Twitter’s #KickTricks
Over the past few weeks we have been having a blast on Twitter with a number of dedicated segments and topics. Amongst those was a couple of nights of #KickTricks part 2!
Is there a way to keep translucent soles icy and clear?
Wearing kicks with translucent soles in the rain speeds up the oxidation process, and with the weather finally clearing up, it’s time to clean up your kicks as well. The easiest way is to use RetroBrite, but if you want to try it yourself, here’s the secret:
Mix equal parts of starch, peroxide & Oxy Clean. Apply the mixture to the icy soles & expose to UV light with a standard UV bulb.
How do you make your own cleaning solution?U
Use equal parts of toothpaste and laundry detergent or dish soap. This is a great way to clean smooth leather, white midsoles and yellow outsoles as well.
How do you make the tongue on Nike SBs stand taller?
Cut the straps.
Can you fix a shoe that is half a size too big or too small?
If your shoes are too big, insert a separate insole and wear thicker socks.
If the shoe is too small, you have a couple of options. 1. Snatch the insoles out. 2. Use the Freezer Stretch method (see below).
How do you clean gum off of your shoe?Go into your girl’s medicine cabinet and grab some nail polish remover. Make sure it is the type that has acetone in it. Pour a cap full over the gum and use a toothpick to scratch it off.
How do you clean or remove a scratch from patent leather?
To remove the scratch, take a Q-Tip dipped in rubbing alcohol or nail polish (with acetone) and rub it along the scratch. Repeat until the scratch is lessened or gone.
To clean the patent leather, avoid using the “spit on my finger and wipe” method. Instead, use water and lotion to keep them shiny.
Is there a way to bring suede and nubuck back to life?
Chances are with enough wear and cleaning, your suede needs some love. Meltonian Suede Renew or Jason Markk Cleaner is the easiest way to revive them. Make sure that you use a GOOD suede brush, it is the most important piece of the puzzle.
TAKE YOUR TIME with suede. Pushing too hard with the brush can fray the leather. and then it’s lights out. Over scrubbing can do more damage than the original problem.
If you spot on your suede, mouthwash will almost ALWAYS get that out.
Can I unclog or clear up my Air bubbles?
Grab a hair dryer and turn it to Warm or Hot. Hold the blow dryer roughly 4 inches from the bubble for 30 seconds. Make sure to keep a good eye on it, you don’t want to melt the sole.
My kicks stink, what can I do?
You can drop a tea bag in each shoe over night, and it will absorb the smell. You can also use Febreeze or dryer sheets.
How can I give love to my beaters?
Start off with a bottle of Jason Markk, – the KicksonFire team swears by this stuff. If you are more of the DIY type, try the cleaning solution posted above. You can also use painters tape to act as a lint brush on your kicks.
