Last time, British designers Priestmangoode redesigned Swiss Air’s first class cabins and now, they have taken wraps off a high-speed train concept for the UK. Dubbed Mercury, the 400-meter-long, double-decker train will travel at 225 mph. There will be areas with commuter seats and private berths, a children’s play area, lounge and bar. Priestmangoode is one of the Britain’s leading transport designers and hopes to convince the government to carry forth the high-speed train project. The company believes that the new high-speed train has the potential to become the new Great British design icon, just like Concorde, the Spitfire, Rolls Royce and the Routemaster bus.
Paul Priestman of Priestmangoode says…
Train travel needs to be as exciting as air travel and as sexy as the latest car. Not only does it need to be fast, it needs to be modern, luxurious, exciting and stylish. Mercury is all those things.
The Mercury boasts an open plan design that allows greater interaction and relaxation, without compromising on privacy. There will be traditional commuter seats, incorporating in-transit entertainment systems, alongside the private berths. The exterior of the Mercury high-speed train has been specially designed to follow design classics such as Concorde, the Spitfire and Rolls Royce.
